Bangladesh Embassy in Mexico City celebrates the historic Homecoming Day

The historic ‘Homecoming Day’ of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of independent Bangladesh, was observed with due solemnity by the Embassy of  Bangladesh in Mexico City on Monday (Jan 10).

In the morning, the messages of the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh on this occasion were read out and a documentary on the Homecoming Day was screened where all the officials and the staff members were present.

In the second segment, the Embassy also organised a virtual discussion meeting on the significance of the day.

 

The programme was conducted by the Counsellor and the Head of Chancery of the Embassy which was broadcasted live in social media. Yogendra Sharma, Coordinator of South Asian Module for University Program for Asian and African Studies of the UNAM University was the keynote speaker at the Online Discussion Program.

He spoke in detail about the active role and unparallel leadership of the Father of the Nation in achieving international recognition of newly independent Bangladesh. He also highlighted the political life of Bangabandhu and his sacrifices to achieve the independence of Bangladesh.

In her speech, Ambassador Abida Islam paid her deepest respect to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and also to the memory of all the martyrs and freedom fighters of the War of Independence.

Referring to the meetings of the Father of the Nation with the then British Prime Minister and then Prime Minister of India, she elaborated on his contributions in the reconstruction of newly independent and war-torn Bangladesh.

In her deliberation, Ambassador Abida Islam also highlighted the unprecedented socio-economic success of Bangladesh in its development journey under the able leadership of the present Prime Minister especially in the areas of women empowerment, poverty alleviation, human development, etc.

She also underlined the initiatives of the government to transform Bangladesh into a developed country by 2041.

 

The Counsellor and Head of Chancery of the Embassy concluded the event by thanking all the attendees for their participation.
